Eye Bags Under the Eyes & Puffy Eyes

Filed under: Health And Fitness — Tags: , — admin @ 6:56 pm
Brian Potter asked:

We all know that aging brings about changes to the way we look and perhaps most of all we all wish it wasn’t so obvious from the look on our face.

With aging one of the most annoying changes for many of us is to do with the skin around the eyes, the skin loosens and sags, bags under the eyes and those lines we know as crow’s feet begin to appear.

Eye bags form over time where the skin and the soft tissues under the eyes lose firmness allowing the fatty deposits to bulge and become more pronounced.

Crow’s feet form over time due to years of muscle movement when blinking or squinting, think therefore how much of a problem this can be for smokers, always squinting to avoid the cigarette smoke from entering the eyes.

OK, so what can we do to alleviate the problem? Well you may want to consider invasive treatments such as fillers or surgery and that can indeed have the desired affect but what if that is not an alternative for whatever reasons, financial, fear of needles etc..

With those lines around the eyes, we call the crow’s feet it may be worth considering a daily massage routine and the use of a good moisturizer each day to keep the skin as supple as possible.

Massage in a little apricot oil and with the ring finger massage in a circular motion from the corner of the eye outwards towards the temple area. Do this on a daily basis to exercise and improve the efficiency of the muscles encircling the eye. Botox is widely used in invasive treatments but good alternatives can be found in the form of certain moisturizers, use these on a daily basis to keep your skin from drying out, there are some that provide excellent overall anti aging treatments in general too.Look for those with built in sun protection.

Bags under the eyes are often due to fluid retention and again there are ways to reduce the problem other than turning to surgery.

The appearance of those bags can often look worse on waking in the mornings and that’s because the fluid builds up overnight. You might like to try a little exercise in jumping up and down or just running up and down the stairs as gravity can help pull down the excess fluid and lessen their appearance.

There are other well know remedies such as lying down with cucumber or potato slices over the eyes and of course the application of ice or cold teaspoons.

You might also like to try tapping lightly with your finger in the under eye area for a minute or so to try and disperse the fluid.

If you believe that those bags under the eyes are as a result of your lifestyle or diet you could run a check on whether or not they are worse after eating certain foods or when you have been consuming too much alcohol or have been in a really smoky atmosphere. Try avoiding some of these things and see if it does make a difference.

Perhaps switching your brands of eye make up, eye make up remover, contact lens solution or mascara might help, you might me sensitive to one of them. If you use an eye cream use only a very small amount and pat or dot it on very lightly along the bony ridge under the eye not right under the eye lashes then massage it in very gently. Make sure that the eye cream you use is the right one for you and make sure that it does not enter your eyes.

You can improve the appearance of skin around your eyes but you must be careful to choose the simplest and most gentle skincare regime and most important of all the right moisturizers and anti aging products.

Administrative Assistant Resume

Jay Tokarz asked:

Did you know that there are ways to write the perfect administrative resume that will help you get the job of your dreams? First of all, your resume should start with your objective, which naturally is the job you are applying for. Everything else that you include in the resume must relate back to this objective. You have to show that you have the skills the employer is looking for in an administrative assistant.

A resume is more than a simple list of your work experience, skills and education. It is a way of showcasing yourself to prospective employers. Through the resume, employers should be able to see at a glance whether or not you meet their needs. They should also gain enough information about you from the resume that they feel they know you already and want to meet you in an interview to gain more information.

When you list your skills and experience on a resume, use bulleted points, rather than detailed paragraphs Employers don’t like wordy resumes, so you don’t need to go into great detail describing your accomplishments or duties at previous locations. They want to simply get a snapshot of your skills and then make a decision about whether or not you would fit with the company. Keep in mind that your resume will be one of hundreds, so you have to make it stand out.

One way to make a resume for an administrative assistant position stand out is to highlight strengths and prior work that would impress prospective employers. For example, the words “monitored”, developed”, supervised” sound much better than “worked on” wrote or “looked after”. It will also give the employer the impression that you are a professional in your field.

A resume should never be longer than 1- 2 pages. You don’t want to bore your prospective boss, just try to get him/her to offer you a position. The resume should be free of any mistakes in spelling or grammar and should not contain any negative comments.

You need to include the main points of your work experience and education to show that you are capable of anything that would be required of you as an administrative assistant.

In summary, your resume should:

• Show off your skills to prospective employers
• Be clear and concise
• Entice the employer to want to know more about you
• Be free of negativity and mistakes

Cari Bradley asked:

Dramatic eye makeup is a technique many women try to learn or improve on. In part 1, simple yet dramatic eye makeup application techniques were described. The use of eyeshadow colors is a easy and straightforward way of making your eyes pop. When specific eyeshadow colors are used, your eye color stands out. This draws attention to your eyes.

Secondly, another way of achieving a dramatic look is to master the cat eye technique. This step by step cat eye guide shows you exactly how to master this eye makeup application technique with ease and reproducibility. Visit part 1 of this article for more in depth detail on the uses of color to make your eyes stand out and to learn the basic steps involved in the cat eye technique.

Now for the fun stuff…

#3 - Let’s dive into a dramatic eye with even more intensity. This doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s more complicated or involves heavier makeup application , it just means that there are a couple of extra makeup application steps. Keep in mind that you can still only use 1 main eyeshadow color, possibly a slightly darker or deeper color for this look, so in many ways, your makeup application technique is still straightforward.

Remember that you can modify this dramatic eye makeup technique according to your particular eye shape.

TECHNIQUE: 1- After preparing face and eye area, apply base color eyeshadow in a light neutral color over entire eye area, from upper eyelid to brow bone. This shade creates a balanced eye by evening out skin tone and by creating a perfect working canvas for the next step.

2- Pick a taupe or medium brown shade depending on eye color and skin tone. Apply to outer 2/3 of upper eyelid area and eye crease with a medium eye makeup brush. Sweep this same color under 1/3 of lower eyelid area with smaller makeup brush. BLEND WELL.

3- Apply liquid or gel eyeliner in black to entire upper eyelid area, from inner to outer corner of eye. Extend into a cat eye if desired. Smudge slightly with a sponge tip applicator into 1/3 of outer area into lower lid lash line for more intensity.

4- Apply false eyelashes , making sure that the longer artificial lashes are at outer corners of eyes.

5- Apply 2 coats of black mascara.

6- Apply highlighter to brow bone and dot inner corners of eyes too.

7- For a more **** look, line inner rims of eyes.

VOILA!

#4 - Now for my favourite look of all…

Dry Eyes - Contact Lenses And Dry Eyes

David Faulkner asked:

One way, it has been found, is to reduce the water content of the lens. Some people have responded well to the new hydro gel contact lenses. Contemporary silicon hydro gel lenses are only about 30% water - which is much less than the 50% to 60% of traditional lenses, and the 70% of soft contact lenses. In addition, the new polymers used in the contact lenses maintain the lens soggy.

Most high water content lenses dehydrate rapidly and rely on the eyes tear film to replenish the lost water. For someone that already has dry eyes, this creates a very uncomfortable contact lens environment. Contact lens related dry eye can be very noticeable at the end of the day or during extended computer use.

Soft lenses have a high water content which makes them satisfied primarily and they retain that high water content in most environments. For a person wearing soft contact lens, this means it does not rely on absorbing as many tears as other lenses to maintain a moist state. Whether at the computer, the theatre, or the beach, soft contact lenses for dry eyes stay comfortable.

Contact Lenses For Dry Eyes:

Dry eye is a common disorder, caused by the insufficiency of tears in the eyes, or by unwarranted tear disappearance. Dry eyes are associated with a number of causes, such as drug use, inflammation, allergic reactions, and contact lens use. Dry eyes often cause contact lens bigotry. People normally suffering from mild dry eyes may not feel any discomfort until they wear contact lenses, and the discomfort increases with the hours spent in front of the computer.
Some doctors recommend switching to Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) contact lenses for dry eye syndrome. RGP contact lenses are made from polymeric materials and do not contain any water. This is unlike soft lenses, and so water will not evaporate from their surface.

One most important benefit of RGP contact lenses is that they do not lump oxygen flow to your corneas, as they are gas permeable. This is strong for your eyes as lack of oxygen can cause serious eye problems, including inflammation of the cornea. An additional plus point is that as they contain no moisture, they do not dry out. Consequently, they may be perfect for those working in conditions, where there is a chance of dry eye syndrome.

Curing Pink Eye Or Conjunctivitis Naturally Using Home Remedies

Kathy Love asked:

What is Pink Eye?

Conjunctivitis, or pink eye, is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, a clear membrane that covers the outer layer of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelids. As with other common eye inflammations, conjunctivitis usually looks and feels worse than it is. While the pronounced redness can be quite alarming, conjunctivitis very rarely causes long term visual damage. Pink eye is, however, a condition that often needs to be diagnosed and treated early as certain types of conjunctivitis are very contagious and any prolonged inflammation of the eyes should be treated with caution to prevent complications and tissue damage.

What are the Symptoms of Conjunctivitis?

Pinkeye is caused by infections from bacteria or viruses, allergies, or certain irritants that come into contact with the eye. Because of all the different causes, there are several different types of conjunctivitis and different symptoms. Infection usually begins with one eye but can quickly spread to the other eye in cases of viral or bacterial conjunctivitis. Symptoms of pink eye may include:

Discomfort in the eye

Redness of the eye or inner eyelids

Discharge and teariness

Discharge may cause eyelids to crust and stick together while sleeping

Itchiness

Tenderness of the eye, or pain

Sensitivity to light

Swelling of the eyelids

Because conjunctivitis is highly contagious and can easily be spread to your other eye, other people and to yourself again once the initial infection has cleared, there are a few precautions that should always be taken:

Don’t share towels, pillows, or washcloths with others, especially if they have conjunctivitis or other viral and bacterial conditions such as cold sores. Change pillowcases and wash towels and bedding frequently. Use immune system boosters to boost your immune system to help prevent infection as well as to encourage faster healing. As much as you may want to, refrain from touching your eyes! If your eyes are itchy, rather use a clean compress for quick relief. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after touching your eyes. Seek medical attention if you develop conjunctivitis when you have a cold sore as herpes simplex related conjunctivitis is a serious condition. Discard any makeup used when you had conjunctivitis as it may be contaminated and this is an easy way to spread it again. If you wear contact lenses, switch to glasses until your eyes have completely healed. Wear sunglasses outdoors as sunlight irritates pink eye.
Home Remedies to Cure Pink Eye

Colloidal Silver — You can buy colloidal silver in a spray bottle. Spray into your eyes two to three times a day. You can also put one or two drops of colloidal silver in your eyes two or three times a day if you can’t find a spray bottle. Colloidal silver has been known to cure pink eye as quickly as six hours. Be sure to use a few days after healing to be safe.

Castor Oil — Put one to two drops in your eyes two times each day. Your eyes will get better within one day, but you should keep using it for a few more days to make sure it is completely gone. Your eyes will get blurry from the oil but it does not sting or hurt and in fact can be soothing. Castor oil is an antimicrobal and is excellent for healing.

Sea Salt — Put a teaspoon of sea salt in one cup warm water and stir until dissolved. You can use an eye dropper and put two to three drops of the saline solution you have created directly into your eye or you can use a cotton ball. Saturate the cotton ball and place it on your eye allowing the water to run into your eye. This is a tried and true remedy that has been used for many years and is still a staple in England.

Makeup Tip: Beautiful Eyes

Sheila Dicks asked:

Eyes have been called the windows of the soul because of how much they communicate. Eyes give your face energy and individuality. They do not have to be a certain size or shape to be considered pretty - all eyes have their own unique beauty. When makeup is applied to look natural it will bring out the eye’s true color and enhance the eye’s beauty. When you feel good about your makeup you will be more confident and will have one less thing to worry about.

A subtle application of eyeliner, shadows and mascara work together to create magic and make your eyes look their best.

Eye Shadow

Eye shadow is meant to highlight and define the eyes. Eye shadow is used to create depth to bring out the beauty of the eyes. A dark color used on the lid will make the eye appear smaller, while a lighter color will make it appear larger. That is what eye shadow is about creating illusions. These are the basic techniques for the following eye shapes:

Small eyes: Don’t use too much shadow or liner - it will make you eyes look smaller. Apply a light color on eyelid, use a darker color in the crease and use a highlighter under the brow.

Large eyes: Wear darker shadow on the lid and extend it to the crease. Use a flat color under the brow to highlight.

Deep-set eyes: Use light colors on the eyelid and under the brow. Use a medium color in the crease. Emphasize the outer corners with shadow.

Wide-set eyes: Use darker colors on the inner corners of the eye.

Hooded eyes: Apply light colors on the lid. Use darker colors from the center of the eyelid to the outer corners and blend.

Round eyes: Make round eyes longer by using color all around and extending toward the outer corners.

Asian eyes: Apply highlighter under the brow. Use light shadow on the inner half of the lid and a darker color on the outer half.

1. Light colors cause the eyes to open, dark colors will cause the eyes to recede

2. If you have very light skin avoid dark shades

3. Be careful with shimmer - they will bring attention to imperfections and wrinkles.

4. The eye area is the first to show age don’t tug on the skin.

Eyeliners:

Eyeliners are meant to define the eyes so they should do just that, not be the focal point of your makeup. Eyeliners come in various colors and forms liquid, pencil etc. Keep the eyeliner natural. Pencils are available in many colors (for the best look stick to black or brown) and can be sharpened for a fine line. For a smudged effect use a sponge tip shadow applicator or an eye shadow brush. When your pencils are too soft refrigerate them. When they are too hard soften them by holding them between your fingers.

To line the eye, start on the lower lid, just beneath the lashes. When you are finished always smudge the line with your sponge. Stay as close to the lash line as possible. On the upper lid, draw a line form the inner corner to the outer corner, thickening the line toward the outer corner. After the age of 40 keep the line in between the lashes.

Mascara and the creation of beautiful lashes:

Mascara frames your eyes and can make your face come alive. Mascara softly accentuates the eye while thickening and darkening the lashes; it is the finishing touch for eyes. There are several different types to choose from, thickening, and waterproof to smudge proof. Waterproof will need a special remover and smudge proof will wash off easily. It is not a good idea to wear waterproof mascara for extended periods of time since it has a tendency to dry the lashes.

Select a shade of mascara that complements your coloring. Dark shades on pale eyes with brown lashes will darken them and will look harsh. Stay away from blues and other colors since they will ruin your look.

Lashes that are hard to curl may need the help of an eyelash curler. Curl your lashes before you apply mascara - hold for ten to twenty seconds.

To apply mascara look straight into your mirror with your chin slightly lifted so you can see your lashes. Insert the wand only once and twist, don’t pump. Pumping can break the brush bristles and distribute the mascara unevenly and will dry out the mascara faster. Start by rolling the wand from root to tip in an upward motion. Reinsert the brush and apply again. If your eyelashes are thick and long they may clunk together. If this happens let them dry and then separate them with the corner of an eyebrow brush.

Natural Eye Health - How To Take Care Of Your Eyes

James Liow asked:

Like other ailments which affect us, many ailments of our eyes can also be prevented. There are ways to maintain the natural health of our eyes and prevent them from ailments.

Different diseases and conditions affect our eyes differently. The most subtle ones may affect and go without our knowledge. The more severe ones affect our vision, sometimes they cause a lot of pain and distress but sometimes they don’t.

So if we are to take good care of our eyes we have to be vigilant and get appropriate help without delay when ever there is the need.

Cleanliness is one important factor to keep disease causing organisms (germs) away from us. Touching your eyes with dirty fingers and objects can transfer diseases to your eyes. This is commonly seen in toddlers and small children. By keeping clean, such infections are prevented.

Diet is another important aspect of a healthy life. Like our bodies, our eyes are also in need of nutrients to maintain eye health. Some nutrients are good for our eyes. Eating a healthy diet with a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits ensure our eyes get all the required nutrients.

Vitamin A deficiency can cause serious eye ailments and can even lead to blindness in severe forms. This is a common problem amongst the malnourished populations of the developing countries. Fortunately, with adequate nutrition this problem can be solved and blindness can be prevented. So eating healthy is important to keep your eyes and sight healthy.

Wearing prescription glasses will reduce the strain if you have a refractive error. If you want to wear contact lenses, make sure you follow the instructions of the lens manufacturer and use them as recommended. Also, make sure you maintain the necessary hygiene for otherwise you may be faced with sigh threatening infections.

If you have undergone corrective eye surgery such as LASIK (laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis), make sure you take proper care of your eyes as advised by your doctor.

Wearing sun glasses will not only protect your eyes from ultra violet rays but also from environmental pollutants which are harmful to your eyes.

Cataract or clouding of the lens is a very common problem encountered in old age. If you have developed a cataract, you should get your eyes checked and operated to remove the cataract before it is too late. Keeping a cataract for too long can cause serious consequences. It may not always be painful but a long standing cataract can cause irreversible blindness. In fact, this is one of the commonest causes of preventable blindness in the old age.

Glaucoma is another condition common amongst the elderly. This is a condition in which one looses eye sight very gradually due to damage caused to the optic nerve (the nerve responsible for vision). If your eyes are not regularly checked for this condition, this may be completely over looked until too late. So if you are more than 60 years of age or if you have risk factors for this disease, it is imperative to get your eyes checked regularly to rule out glaucoma.

If you have anything unusual about your eyes, you should promptly get your eyes checked by an eye care practitioner.

Eye Strain Causes, Prevention And Treatments

S. Wagner asked:

In the technological age, one of the most common problems that people face is eye strain. Between computers and televisions, this problem can be annoying at best and debilitating at worst. This article is going to explain what eye strain is, what causes it and how it can be avoided and treated. Hopefully, after reading this, if you suffer from eye strain, your days of suffering will be a thing of the past.

Eye strain is a condition that occurs when the muscles of the eyes are overused. Whenever any muscle stays in one position too long, it is going to get strained. That’s just basic anatomy. The question is, what causes this to happen? Why do we get eye strain?

For people who work on computers, they’re staring at a screen, usually in one position, for hours during the day. Unless they take frequent breaks for coffee or whatever, eventually, because their eyes have been in that one position for so long, they are going to get strained. This is almost unavoidable. Same thing with watching TV if you’ve been sitting in front of the set for hours on end. Eventually, staring at the screen will get to your eyes and they will strain.

The to avoiding eye strain is to keep the muscles moving around. This is easier said than done if you have a job, such as data entry, where you are typing all day. However, by simply averting your eyes away from the screen on occasion, this will greatly reduce the strain on your eyes. For typists, doing this after each paragraph typed works wonders.

Fortunately, there are a number of ways to combat eye strain.

One way is to use computer monitors that reduce the glare and are easier on your eyes. Most new monitors today are optimized to reduce eye strain. For the ones that are older, there are screens that you can purchase to put over the monitor that will work just as well.

Another thing you can do to avoid eye strain is to exercise your eyes regularly. There are a number of different exercises that you can use. These can be easily found on the Internet. Just do a search on “eye exercises.”

Nutrition is also very important for reducing eye strain. Plenty of vitamin A and beta carotene are excellent for your eyes and will greatly reduce the risk of eye strain.

Try to avoid eye drops if you can. These only mask the symptoms and don’t really treat the problem. Using drugs for eye strain should be your last resort and avoided if possible.

Constant eye strain can lead to long term eye problems, so it is important that you take all precautions to avoid eye strain, such as using special monitors, exercising your eyes and getting proper nutrition. I’ve been working on computers for over 20 years and have almost never suffered from eye strain. So it is possible to work in the technical field and save your eyes at the same time.

To YOUR Health,

Steve Wagner
